Women's Hoops responds in crunch time, gets road win

Sophomore Kaia Porter scored 21 points and No. 3-ranked St. Thomas outscored the host Bethel Royals 13-7 over the final four minutes to post a 73-64 victory in MIAC women's basketball play Wednesday night in Arden Hills.

Lucia Renikoff finished with 15 points and six assists for St. Thomas (6-0 overall, 2-0 MIAC), which shot 54 percent on the game. Kelsie Cox added nine points off the bench.

The Tommies have won 56 consecutive games against conference opponents and 32 in a row on the road.

Hannah Johnson closed with 27 points and 11 rebounds in 38 minutes for Bethel (3-4, 0-2).

The Toms led 36-30 at halftime, but the contest was tied 51-51 after three quarters.

St. Thomas senior Hannah Spaulding was limited by foul trouble, playing just 29 minutes, but finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. She scored five points to start the game-closing run.

St. Thomas is home Saturday to play Carleton (1 p.m.).
