Pete Sienko recorded the tournment's best round with Sunday's 69 to help St. Thomas Men's Golf tie for second out of 18 teams at the season-opening Augsburg Invitational.

The two-day, 36-hole event concluded Sunday at Majestic Oaks.

St. John's won the team title by 16 strokes with a 592 score. Just six strokes separated the next six teams -- Bethel, St. Thomas and Nebraska Wesleyan each finished at 609; and Augsburg (613) and St. Thomas' second team (615) took fifth and sixth place.

Nebraska Wesleyan's Matt Unruh won medalist honors by one stroke at 145, one shot ahead of Sienko (77-69/146). Sienko had the low score among 77 MIAC players from nine conference schools competing.

UST freshman Emmet Herb shot 77-73/150 to tie for ninth place in his first collegiate competition.

Other top Tommie scorers included:

Alex Syverson tied for 14th (74-78/152);

Shane Sienko tied for 19th (76-77/153);

Freshman Ben Kisla tied for 30th (83-73/156);

Matt Mellin and Owen Nowicki each tied for 33rd with identical scores of 81-76/157.
