Brenna Walek drove in five runs with two home runs and Micaela Trainor had five hits on the day as No. 13-ranked St. Thomas Softball clinched a share of the MIAC championship with Tuesday's 8-1, 6-1 softball sweep at St. Ben's.
Katie Jo Delisle threw a one-hit shutout in game two, and UST scored four late runs to break open a tight game.
The Tommies (31-5 overall, 18-2 MIAC) close ther conference regular season Saturday at home against Bethel for two. They need one win or one St. Catherine loss this week to secure the MIAC title and playoff top seed.
In 16 seasons under Coach John Tschida. St. Thomas Softball has won 13 regular-season crowns and 11 of 12 playoff championships in the MIAC.

St. Thomas Baseball saw its MIAC lead shrink as second-place St. John's recorded a 4-1, 8-7 home sweep Tuesday in Collegeville. Game two went 10 innings.
St. Thomas (22-8 overall, 11-3 MIAC) has lost four of its last five games, including two one-run decisions. The Johnnies (24-9, 12-4) have won 10 of their last 11.
The Tommies rallied from a 6-0 deficit in game two and led 7-6 in the eighth inning. A pair of two-out hits in the eighth tied the game. SJU scored an unearned run for a walk-off run in the 10th inning.
Jake Smith had a 17-game hitting streak halted in game one but hit a grand slam in game two to spark the comeback. Brady Johnson's RBI single put UST ahead in the eighth inning.
