St. Thomas rode good pitching and clutch at-bats to win three of four games on Tuesday on the diamonds.
Tommie Baseball closed out a road sweep, both wins by two-run margins, and Tommie Softball rallied to split its road twinbill. Both teams remain atop the standings in the MIAC.
No. 15-ranked St. Thomas swept Bethel 3-1 and 6-4 in baseball to push its winning streak to eight. The Toms had 23 singles among 26 hits on the day, and used seven pitchers over 16 innings.
No. 20-ranked UST lost 1-0 in game one in softball at No. 17-ranked St. Catherine but scored the day's last five runs and won game two 5-2. The Toms had a 17-game win streak halted in the opener, but reached 20 victories on the season with the game-two triumph.

Starter Katie Jo Delisle worked into the sixth inning and allowed two runs and one walk with four strikeouts in the Tommies' 5-2 win. Her RBI double aided a two-run third inning that tied the game 2-2. UST used a throwing error, two wild pitches, and a sac fly to score its last four runs.
Kierstin Anderson-Glass pitched 7 1-3 innings on the day and took a loss and a save. The freshman struck out seven and walked one and allowed just one run. The only score of game one came with two out in the bottom of the sixth on a bad-hop single by Krista Flugstad that popped over the shortstop and drove in a runner from third base.
Nine different players had UST's nine hits in game two. Delisle had three hits on the day, while Anderson-Glass had two and has hit safely in 15 of her last 16 games.
St. Thomas (20-4 overall, 7-1 MIAC) is home Thursday for a doubleheader against second-place Hamline (3:30 p.m.). The Toms have allowed just six runs in eight conference games.
St. Catherine (18-3, 5-3) has split three MIAC twinbills for its lone defeats of the season.
Baseball
Seniors Waylon Bemboom and Cory Quinlan each went 5-for-8 on the day to help St. Thomas sweep defending conference champion Bethel in MIAC action in Arden Hills.
The Tommies (15-3 overall, 8-0 MIAC) allowed just five runs on the day and have surrendured just 17 runs in 65 innings in its 8-0 MIAC start. That includes a 2.34 ERA by theor starting pitchers in MIAC play (12 earned runs in 46 innings).
Bemboom pushed his hitting streak to 12 games and Jake Smith made it 15 games in a row reaching base via a hit or walk. Smith drove in two runs in the opener with a sac fly and a single.
Junior Mitch Larson posted his third consecutive strong start as he pitched into the sixth inning in the opener. Matt Behounek and Alex Ogren got the final five outs in the 3-1 win.
Caleb Fernholz (four innings) and Drew Molin (2 2-3 innings) each allowed two runs in game two. Ryan Zimmerman pitched two scoreless innings and Eric Veglahn got his second save of the season as he fanned the only batter he faced to close out the victory.

In eight conference games, St. Thomas is now hitting .355 to a .211 clip for opponents, with a 19-2 advantage in stolen bases.
