Wed. Wrap: 3-0 night for Hoops, W. Hockey

St. Thomas went 3-0 on Wednesday night in men's and women's basketball and women's hockey.
Men's Basketball
St. Thomas recorded 35 bench points and freshman guard Jacob Hansen sank four treys in a team-high 12 point game as the No. 6-ranked Tommie men scored a 78-53 defeat of Macalester in MIAC play at Schoenecker Arena.
Taylor Montero contributed 11 points; Grant Shaeffer had nine points and six assists; Ryan Boll had nine points; while Ryan Saarela had eight points, seven boards and four steals.
UST had a 44-27 edge in rebounds, had 11 players score and shot 48 percent from the floor.
St. Thomas (5-1 overall, 2-1 MIAC) plays next Saturday at UW-River Falls (5 p.m.).
Women's Basketball
Gabby Zehrer sank 5-of-5 from 3-point range and closed with a game-high 16 points as No. 6-ranked St. Thomas scored a 76-50 defeat of Macalester in MIAC play at Schoenecker Arena.
Kailin Langer added 14 points and Lauren Fischer scored 11.
St. Thomas (8-0 overall, 3-0 MIAC) shot 50 percent from the floor and sank nine 3-pointers.
The Tommies play Saturday at St. Catherine (3 p.m).
Women's Hockey
Courtney Umland scored with 6:17 to play in regulation to snap a scoreless tie and lift No. 7-ranked St. Thomas to Wednesday night's 1-0 road win at UW-Eau Claire. Kaylee Druk and Tori Bailey assisted on the winning goal.
St. Thomas (7-1-1 overall), which ran its win streak to four, got 16 saves by freshman goalie Kenzie Torpy, who has not allowed a goal in the last eight periods (57 shots) dating back to last Friday.
UST is home Dec. 12-13 for a 7 p.m./2 p.m. twinbill against UW-Stevens Point.
