Close call, W. Basketball falls in exhibition

Junior center Kaitlin Langer had 24 points and 15 rebounds but St. Thomas lost Tuesday night's home exhibition women's basketball game against Division II Southwest Minnesota State, 65-59.
The Toms led 36-30 at halftime but were outscored 35-23 in the final two quarters. UST shot 39 percent in the first half but only 30 percent in the second half. The teams played to a 33-33 draw in rebounds, but UST had nine second-half turnovers.
Annessa Rosch scored a team-high 16 points, including 5-of-6 free throws in the final 26 seconds to help SMSU pull away.
Maddie Wolkow had 11 points and three steals for the Tommies, who open their regular season at home Nov. 14 against St. Norbert.
