Noah Kaiser and Will DeBerg each scored 14 points and the host Tommies (19-6 overall, 16-4 MIAC) used a 27-4 mid-game run to blow open Saturday's 70-40 win over the visiting Cardinals (5-20, 5-15) in MIAC men's basketball at Schoenecker Arena.
With its win and Bethel's 68-52 road win at Gustavus, St. Thomas shared the conference title, the program's seventh in a row in MIAC men's basketball.
UST also claimed the top-seed for the MIAC playoffs and gave John Tauer a championship in his first season as head coach. The Tommes went 4-0 over the last eight days of the season to get the title share.
It's just the second time -- and first in more than 60 seasons -- that an MIAC men's basketball program has won or shared seven championships in a row. Hamline won seven straight from 1946-53.
St. Thomas had a 37-7 advantage in bench points and shot 75 percent (15-of-20) in he second half as it ran its win streak to five. The Toms knocked down 16-of-18 free throws and had only nine turnovers.
