Men's Hoops gets 16-point home win over Pipers

The first-place Tommies (13-4 overall, 10-2 MIAC) had six players score in double figures and used a late 20-9 run to build a 17-point cushion in Wednesday night's 89-73 win over the Hamline Pipers (10-8, 8-5) in MIAC men's basketball play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
Zach Riedeman scored 15 points for the Toms, who converted 31-of-39 free throws.
UST maintained its one-game lead over second-place Gustavus atop the conference standings, and has a two-game lead on Augsburg and St. Olaf.
Marcus Alipate scored 14 points, Will DeBerg, Noah Kaiser Erik Tengwall scored 12 points each, and John Nance had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
UST used an 11-0 run in the first half to take a 30-23 lead, ad the Pipers never led again. St. Thomas led 43-36 at halftime and built the lead to 14. The Pipers used an 11-2 run to get within five points with 10:37 left. But the Toms countered with a 20-9 run to rebuild a 17-point lead.
Brandon Rieg and Al Tillman each scored 17 points off the bench for Hamline.
The Tommies play Saturday at Gustavus.
