Brandenburg shot saves Women's Basketball
1/14/2012 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Junior guard Kelly Brandenburg drove the baseline and scored a go-ahead basket with seven seconds to go as the first-place Tommies (12-1 overall, 10-0 MIAC) rallied for a 49-48 win over the host Cobbers in Saturday's MIAC women's basketball game in Moorhead.
Brandenburg, who scored eight of her team-best 12 points in the second half, took a pass from Taylor Young in the corner and drove in to make the go-ahead basket. After a Cobber time out with :02.6 seconds to go, Concordia missed a potential game-winning 3-point shot at the buzzer.
UST closed the game on a 7-2 run and didn't allow a field goal in the final 4:50. It ran its winning streak to 12 games. The Tommies still lead second-place Gustavus by one game.
St. Thomas' Maggie Weiers had 10 points and Sarah Smith added 12 rebounds.
The Toms play Monday at Bethel.
