Volleyball splits two on Sat., goes 2-2 in Texas

The No. 7-ranked Tommies volleyball team split two Saturday matches and finished 2-2 on the weekend at the Trinity University tourney in San Antonio.
UST (11-2) lost 3-0 to No. 8-ranked Carthage, but came back to post a five-game win over Occidental, which received votes but sits just out of the national rankings. The Toms won 15-11 in the decisive fifth game and ended Oxy's seven-match win streak.
Carthage (11-2) went 4-0 to claim the championship.
In Friday's opening round, the Toms lost in five to No. 10-ranked Southwestern, but scored a 3-0 win over No. 23-ranked Trinity.
Freshman Kelly Foley had 24 kills in the five-game win over Oxy and hit .310 with 69 kills in 16 games on the tournament. Jill Greenfield had 19 digs and 15 kills against Oxy. Kaitlain Wachter had 67 digs on the 16 games in the tourney.
The Tommies are home Wednesday to face Carleton (7 p.m.).
