Smith's career game lifts W. Hoops to win

Senior forward Sarah Smith had a career-best 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting and the Tommies (1-1) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to top previously-unbeaten Southwestern (Texas), 76-63, in Saturday's women's basketball game at the Trinity Tournament in San Antonio.

Smith also chipped in 11 boards as the Toms outrebounded Southwestern 39-28.

Maggie Weiers added 14 points and five rebounds and Taylor Young added 13 points and six boards. UST shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half and 51 percent on the game.

Southwestern (3-1) made six 3-pointers en route to a 43-33 halftime lead. But it made only one trey in the second half and was outscored 43-20 after the break.

The Tommies will play Sunday at 4 p.m. against host Trinity (Tex.).
