Smith sharp again as Women's Basketball rolls

Sarah Smith had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists and the visiting Tommies (2-1) used a late 18-4 run to pull away and post an 80-63 win over host Trinity (Tex.) in Sunday's non-conference women's basketball game in San Antonio.
St. Thomas shot 56 percent from the floor (35-of-63) and had only 11 turnovers.
Maggie Weiers scored 14 points, Kelly Brandenburg scored 13, and Kellie Ring chipped in 11. UST had a 29-23 advantage in rebounds.
Trinity (1-4) broke to an early nine-point lead but trailed 35-30 at halftime. Trinity, which sank nine 3-pointers on the game, rallied to get within 62-57 but the Toms broke it open with a 18-4 run.
St. Thomas opens its MIAC season at home next Saturday against Gustavus.
