Five Tommie sports teams will compete this weekend -- two on campus on Saturday for Homecoming, and three out of state.

Volleyball

The No. 12-ranked Tommie volleyball team (20-3) plays four matches this weekend in the Simpson College tournament in Indianola, Iowa. UST faces Iowa schools William Penn (3 p.m.) and Loras (7:30 p.m.) on Friday, and Nebraska Wesleyan (10 a.m.) and Simpson (12:15 p.m.) on Saturday. Three of their four matches will have live video. Women's Soccer

The Tommies (6-3-2 overall, 4-1-2 MIAC) have a big home game Saturday at 1 p.m. against first-place St. Ben's. A victory would knock the Blazers out of the MIAC lead and elevate St. Thomas into a least a share of first place with three games and two weeks remaining in the regular season. St. Ben's is unbeaten in its last six games (6-0-1) and is plkaying its fifth consecutive road game. UST edged Macalester last Tuesday, 2-1, on Katy Scherer's goal in the 86th minute, Scherer leads the conference with six goals in seven MIAC games. Saturday is also Senior Day for UST's two seniors -- keeper Allie Byron and four-year starting defender Tess Hanson.

Football

No. 3-ranked St. Thomas (6-0 overall, 4-0 MIAC) plays its 2011 Homecoming game Saturday at 1 p.m. in O'Shaughnessy Stadium vs. Hamline (0-5, 0-3). The game will have live video, live radio and audio and live stats. UST recorded its first conference shutout since 2003 with last Saturday's 17-0 win at Augsburg. The Tommie defense limited an explosive Auggie attack to no points and 250 total yards after the Auggies had averaged 32.5 points and 398 yards of offense a game in their 4-0 start. St. Thomas ran its MIAC winning streak to 15 games, the program's longest in conference play since the 1947-49 Tommies won 15 in a row in the league. Senior Colin Tobin had 119 of his 155 rushing yards in the second half and posted his 10th career 100-yard rushing game. QB Dakota Tracy also ran for 124 yards and the Tommies received their 33rd and 34th 100-yard rushing performance of the 42-game Glenn Caruso era.
