Volleyball goes 4-0 in Iowa, now 17-3 on fall

The No. 10-ranked Tommie volleyball team wrapped up a 4-0 weekend with two Saturday victores at the Wartburg Invitational. St. Thomas was the lone 4-0 finisher in the eight-team event.
St. Thomas fended off Cornell (Iowa), 3-1, and stopped UW-River-Falls, 3-0, to improve to 17-3 on the season.
In the 25-21, 25-13, 7-25, 25-14 victory over Cornell, Kaitlain Wachter had 24 digs; Ashley Maher had 38 assists and 10 digs; Taylor Cross had 12 kills; Paige Brimeyer and Kelly Foley each had 10 kills; KariAnn Nass had 10 digs, and Jill Greenfield had seven kills and eight digs. Cornell is now 14-3 on the season.
In UST's 25-18, 25-15, 25-17 victory over River Falls, Foley had 11 kills and five blocks; Maher had 25 assists; and Wachter recorded 16 digs.
Maher was selected tournament MVP asnd joined Foley on the all-tournament team.
The Tommies are home next Friday night to face Macalester.

Friday story
The No. 10-ranked Tommie volleyball team won two matches Friday in the Wartburg Invitational. St. Thomas topped UW-LaCrosse, 3-0, and outlasted Wartburg, 3-2.
The Tommies topped LaCrosse 25-12, 25-10, 25-15. UST prevailed 25-19, 16-25, 26-24, 21-25, 15-11 against Wartburg.
In the Wartburg victory, Kelly Foley has 23 kills and hit .386; Jill Greenfield had 14 kills and 21 digs; Kaitlain Wachter had 32 digs; Ashley Maher added 55 assists and two aces; Paige Brimeyer had 10 kills; and Nicole Potts had nine kills and nine digs.
St. Thomas (15-3) plays Cornell (10 a.m.) and UW-River Falls (2 p.m.) on Saturday.
