Volleyball gets 18th win, stays in MIAC lead

Senior middle Taylor Cross had 12 kills, two solo blocks and hit .647 to lead the No. 12-ranked Tommies to Fridaynight's 3-0 sweep of Macalester in conference volleyball play in Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies, who won 25-18, 25-11, 25-9, ran their home win streak to 13 dating back to September 2010.
UST (18-3 overall, 4-1 MIAC) will go into Saturday's 3 p.m. match at St. Catherine in a five-way tie for the conference lead with Concordia, Bethel, Augsburg and St. Ben's.
Paige Brimeyer had eight kills and Kelly Foley added seven. Ashley Maher contributed 34 assists, while Kaitlain Wachter added 13 digs and Jill Greenfield had nine digs. UST hit .344.
St. Thomas plays Saturday at St. Catherine (3 p.m.) and next Wednesday at St. Olaf (7 p.m.).
