The Toms held off Concordia 67-54 in the first meeting, 12 days ago in Moorhead. The Cobbers can tie the Tommies for second place with a win tonight.
UST is now 1.5 games out of the conference lead as it fell behind by 18 points Saturday and lost 62-58 at St. Ben's. After losing to nationally-ranked UW-Stevens Point here 10 weeks ago, St. Thomas has won its last five home games.

--- Welcome to the new Schoecker Arena at the University of St. Thomas, where tonight the Tommie Women (11-4, 10-2) will be taking on the Concordia Cobbers (11-4, 9-3) in a battle for second place in the MIAC. UST's comes into the game led by senior center Rachel Booth, who's averaging 10 points and six and a half rebounds per game. Concordia is led by 5-7 senior guard Erica Nord, coming in averaging nearly 14 points per contest. I'm Patrick Stumpf, and I'll be periodically updating you on tonight's action. Hope you enjoy!
--- Our Sports Information Director Gene McGivern pointed out to me that in the game between these two teams earlier in the year, St. Thomas got off to a 14-0 start, however, was relatively even the rest of the way. UST won that one 67-54 in Moorhead. Ironically, Cobber guard Brittany Jossart takes the opening tip and sprints for a layup just five seconds in.
--- Freshman Taylor Young has gotten off to a scorching start for the Tommies, hitting her first three shots from the field, scoring 7 points in just four minutes. UST leads 12-6 early on in the first half.
--- Since that early basket, UST has gone on a 16-2 run, outshooting the Cobbers 86% to 18%, building a 17-6 lead with 12:44 remaining in the opening half. Concordia is in the midst of a four minute scoring drought.
--- St. Thomas' scoring run officially peaked at 17-4, however, Concordia has shown some resiliency, going on an 8-1 run of their own- including a shot clocker buzzer beating three pointer from Maggie Bauernfeind from well beyond the arc. UST still leads 24-16 with 7:12 remaining in the first half.
--- UST heads into halftime leading 36-27 in a high-tempo affair. Young leads all scorers with 11, followed by Maggie Weiers and Kellie Ring with seven and five, respectively. St. Thomas ended up coming down to Earth a little bit after that extremely hot start, shooting 58% as a team. Concordia shot 33%. Bauernfeind leads the Cobbers with nine points.
--- It looked like Concordia was going to follow the same pattern it had in the first half- making one early shot then going cold- however, they've picked it up here in the last few minutes, and are on a 10-2 run with 12:32 left in the game. UST still holds the lead, 44-39.
--- We're entering crunch time here, with the Tommies holding on by the slimmest of margains, 47-46, with 8:16 remaining. Should be a great finish, folks!
--- And just like that, Concordia has grabbed an eight point lead, 58-50, after a 9-0 run, with 3:12 left. They've continually been successful blocking would-be shots by UST, and hit all of their open shots, too. It doesn't help that the Tommies have only hit two field goals in the last 10:30, in which Concordia has gone on a 24-6 run.
--- In rather shocking fashion, UST ends up losing this one 63-55 after leading by nine points at half, and as many as 15 points in the first half. They really struggled drawing fouls and knocking down open shots, two things that Concordia used to make the comeback and pull out the victory.
--- St. Thomas shot just 23% in the second half, in stark contrast to their first (58%), only scoring 19 points compared to 36. Sarah Smith provided one of the lone bright spots throughout the game for the Tommies, ending with nine points and 13 boards. Taylor Young and Jazmin Townsend lead the team in scoring with 11 apiece, however, it should be noted that Young did not score at all in the second half.
--- Concordia shot 41% in the second half, outscoring the Tommies 36-19, including 5-6 from three-point range. Maggie Bauernfeind led the Cobbers with 15 points, as Brittany Jossart chipped in with 14. But perhaps the most impactful player in this game with freshman Alexandra Lippert, cousin of St. Thomas' varsity men's player Jake Lippert, scoring eight points, grabbing eight rebounds, and blocking six shots.
---The St. Thomas women will be at Augsburg on Wednesday, the tip is 7:30 p.m. The Men will be at home at the new Schoecker arena against the Auggies starting at 7:30 p.m.
