Freshmen Taylor Young and Maggie Weiers each scored 16 points and the Tommies rallied past the host Auggies, 73-62, in Wednesday night's MIAC women's basketball game in Minneapolis.
The Tommies (12-5 overall, 11-3 MIAC) pulled back within one game of conference leader St. Ben's, a 77-58 loser at Hamline. Concordia is also at 11-3 as it won its fifth in a row, at Carleton.
Weiers, who also had nine boards, made 8-of-11 shots. Rachel Booth had 12 points and six boards, and Carolyn Dienhart added 11 points and five assists. Jazmin Townsend had a career-high eight assists to go with six rebounds and three steals.
Lexi Thomspon scored 18 points for the Auggies (4-13, 3-11).
The Toms matched their season low with just 11 turnovers and rolled up a 39-14 advantage in bench points while helping limit the host team to 32-percent shooting. They completed a season sweep of Augsburg.
UST trailed 30-29 at halftme but went ahead to stay with 16:04 left on Jazmin Townsend's 3-pointer. That started an 11-2 run. Later the Auggies pulled within two, but Becky Theisen and Dienhart each knocked down 3-point shots to fuel an 8-0 run for a 56-46 lead with 7:40 left.
The Tommies are home Saturday night to face Bethel (7:30). UST will honor its 1990-91 NCAA Champion team that evening.
