Molly Geske scored 10 of her game-high 17 points in the second half to lead first-place Gustavus to a 66-56 win over the visiting Tommies in Wednesday's MIAC women's basketball play in St. Peter.
Gustavus (20-4 overall, 18-3 MIAC) secured a share of the MIAC title. The Gusties trailed only once (12-10) as UST was behind 27-19 at halftime and never got closer than five in the second half.
The Gusties used a 15-8 margin in free-throw scoring and a 37-28 rebounding advantage and also had a modest 10 turnovers.
The loss dropped the Tommies (17-7, 14-7) into fifth place and damaged their shot at hosting a first-round playoff game next Monday.
UST's Ali Johnson had 16 points, including a game-best four 3-point baskets. The sophomore guard has made 19 treys in her last five games and now has 57 on the season.
Rachel Booth had 11 points, five rebounds, four blocks and three assists, Jazmin Townsend had 13 points and five rebounds, and Carolyn Dienhart matched her career-high with 10 points off the bench.
The Toms close the regular season Saturday at sixth-place Hamline (1 p.m.).
