Men's Tennis gets 9-0 win over Cardinals

The St. Thomas men's tennis team scored a 9-0 win over St. Mary's in Thursday's play at Moore Lake Lifetime Fitness in Fridley. The Tommies (12-6 overall, 4-4) have won eight of their last nine matches.
With Tyler Rice out of the lineup with an injury, the St. Thomas duo of Phil Hanke/Kevin Walker moved up to first doubles and won 8-4. Andy Michels/Drew Carlson won 8-1 at second doubles, and Dan Cooper/Matt Bergstrom won 8-4 at third doubles.
St. Thomas won all the singles matches in straight sets. Hanke won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1; Michels won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2; Walker won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4; and Cooper won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
Weather permitting, the Toms close the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against first-place Gustavus back at Fridley's Moore Lake courts.
On the season, Michels is 15-3 in singles play; Hanke and Walker are 12-4 at second and first doubles; Cooper is 9-3 at third doubles and 14-3 in Nos. 5-6 singles; and Carlson is 10-4 in doubles.
