St. Thomas played perennial MIAC power Gustavus close in Saturday's 6-3 loss at Moore Lake Lifetime Fitness in Fridley.
Both teams played without their top player, including injured Tyler Rice for the Tommies.
Dan Cooper and Drew Carlson both won at third doubles and No. 5-6 singles, and UST lost two close singles matches.
It was just the second loss in 10 matches for St. Thomas (12-7 overall, 4-5 MIAC).
The No. 10-ranked Gusties moved to 22-8 overall and 8-0 in the conference and will play in Fridley tonight against Macalester.
