Men's Hockey gets 9-2 win over Cardinals

Parker Burgess scored a hat trick and Andrew Kappers added two goals and three assists to lead the host Tommies (11-8-2 overall, 8-3-1 MIAC) to a 9-2 win over St. Mary's in men's hockey play Saturday afternoon in Mendota Heights.

The nine goals were a season for the Tommies, who outscored St. Mary's 16-3 on the weekend and swept the Cards for the fourth season in a row. Todd Alexander added four assists.

UST freshman Cary Wood played 45:00 in goal and stopped 12 of 14 shots in improving to 7-0, all in the last five weeks.

Tommy Healy and Colin McGlynn had goals for the Cardinals, who were outshot 37-23.

The Tommies moved into second place in the MIAC race with four games to go, and will face first-place St. Olaf next weekend.

Over the last 16 days, St. Thomas is 21-1 in hockey and basketball.
