Jessica Katch gets MIAC hoops weekly honor

January 05, 2009

Tommie forward senior Jessica Katch (SR-Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic High) today was named MIAC Player of the Week in women's basketball. It was the third time in three seasons that a conference Player of the Week honor went to Action picKatch, a two-time All-MIAC honoree.

Ina 2-0 week, Katch averaged 17 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 4.5 steals, 1.5 blocks and just 1.5 turnovers. She led the Toms to an 82-72 win over No. 7-ranked Simpson -- the Toms' first win over a top-10 ranked team in eight seasons -- and an 80-60 victory over Macalester.

Katch made a run at a triple double against Macalester with 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. In the second half against Simpson she played just 10 minutes but had six points, six rebounds and five steals and made two free throws during a game-closing 8-0 run.

Katch is on pace to become the first MIAC women's player to reach 1,200 points, 700 rebounds, 350 assists, 275 steals and 70 blocked shots in their career. In 87 career games, Katch has 1,048 points, 584 rebounds, 286 assists, 238 steals and 64 blocks. She's helped the Toms to a 42-21 record over the last three seasons.

UST has won seven of its last eight games in 2008-09. The 7-2 Tommies have three games this week -- including tonight's 7:30 test at St. Catherine -- and start this week one-half game out of the conference lead.
