Women's Basketball tops Auggies, 72-48

Senior forward Jessica Katch had 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead the host Tommies (11-6 overall, 9-5 MIAC) to a 72-48 win over the Auggies (3-14, 1-13) in MIAC women's basketball play Wednesday night at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
The Toms moved into a fourth-place tie with Gustavus, one game behind third-place Hamline. UST capped a season sweep of Augsburg, which lost its 24th in a row at Schoenecker Arena.
For Augsburg, Michelle Richter had 16 points and seven rebounds, Christa Suedbeck had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Seranae Levine had 11 points and eight assists.
UST used a 22-10 run to build a 29-15 lead and stayed on top at halftime 35-21. After an opening layup by Augsburg, St. Thomas got baskets from six different players in a 15-1 run in an 8:39 stretch early in the second half to build a 50-24 lead.
St. Thomas shot 45% from the field, outscored the Auggies 15-0 from 3-point range and used 20 players with 13 scoring. UST had a 27-5 advantage in bench points.
The Toms play six of their next seven games on the road, starting Saturday at Macalester and Monday at St. Mary's.

In Minneapolis, No. 1-ranked St. Thomas put all five starters in double figures and used a 15-2 run to start the second half en route to an 87-57 win over second-place Augsburg. The Tommies (18-0 overall, 13-0 MIAC) have a four-game lead in the MIAC race with seven games to go. UST won its eighth game in22 days and ran its MIAC win streak to 16.
