Women's Hoops loses 60-53 to Gusties

Julia Schultz had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Gustavus (10-3 overall, 8-2 MIAC) to a 60-53 victory over the host Tommies (9-5, 7-4) in MIAC women's basketball play Saturday in UST's Schoenecker Arena. The win at St. Ben's loss at Hamline pushed Gustavus into a tie for the conference lead.
Molly Mathiowetz added 13 points off the bench for Gustavus, which shot just 37% from the field, made just 18-of-28 at the foul line and survived 16 turnovers.
The Gusties closed the first half with a 13-2 run for a 27-22 lead at the break. They built the lead to 46-32 with 11:46 to go before the Tommie countered with a 9-0 run to pull within 46-41 with 9:20 left. But St. Thomas couldn't get closer than five points the rest of the game.
UST shot just 32% from the floor (18-of-56) and had 21 turnovers. Becky Theisen scored 12 points and seven rebounds, Jazmin Townsend had 11 points and nine rebounds and Jessica Katch had nine points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.
