Women's Hoops ends slide, wins 67-61

Senior forward Jessica Katch had 20 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists to lead the host Tommies (8-4 overall, 6-3 MIAC) to a 67-61 win over Carleton (4-7, 3-5) in MIAC women's basketball play Saturday at UST's Schhoenecker Arena.
Freshman Kassie Robinson had 11 points, sophomore Becky Theisen had 10 points andf five rebounds, and senior Chelsea Wirtz added nine points and three steals for St. Thomas, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
Senior Hannah Oken-Berg had a game-high 21 points for the Knights, who had 12 of their 20 turnovers in the second half. Senior guard Annie Isler had 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals, and soph guard Ally Weaver had 10 points.
The Tommies, who trailed 34-30 at halftime, took the lead to stay with a 12-0 run, capped by a Wirtz 3-point basket, that built a 52-44 margin with 10:13 left. The Knights pulled within 62-59 with 43 seconds to go on Oken-Berg's final basket, but Theisen answered 14 seconds later with a runner for two that pushed the lead back to two possessions.
The Tommies play first-place St. Ben's and second-place Gustavus at home on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.
