Isaac Rosefelt had 19 points and nine rebounds, including an offensive rebound, tie-breaking basket and free throw with 9.6 seconds left, as visiting St. Thomas scored a 68-65 victory over Concordia in MIAC basketball Saturday in Moorhead.
The No. 3-ranked Tommies (13-1 overall, 9-0 MIAC) saw a 14-point lead vanish but rallied to move into sole possession of the conference lead by one-half game over idle St. John's (8-0). St. Thomas is off Monday and plays Wednesday at St. John's to close the first half of the 20-game MIAC schedule.
The Tommies are 7-0 in a 16-day stretch since Dec. 29, including two wins in overtime and three others by six or less points.
The Cobbers (2-11, 2-6) used a 17-4 run, capped by Brock Citterman's 3-pointer, to take a 65-64 lead with 90 seconds left.
Rosefelt made one of two free throws with 61 seconds left to tie the game at 65. The Toms got the offensive rebound and held for the game-winning shot. Lonnie Robinson missed a trey with 11 seconds left but Rosefelt got the rebound, a go-ahead basket and was fouled. He made the free throw for a three-point cushion. After an immediate timeout with just under 10 seconds, the Cobbers' 3-point shot at the buzzer was no good.
UST had a 27-19 rebounding advantage. Mike Keating had 15 points, Robinson had 10 of his 12 points in the second half, Bryan Schnettler had 10 points and Andrew Dwyer had nine assists. Schnettler moved into third in MIAC career 3-pointers at 240.
UST shot 50% from the field (26-of-52) to the Cobbers' 49%. St. Thomas is now 34-1 over the last two seasons when it outshoots its foe from the field.
