Men's Basketball tops Pipers 81-66

Senior guard Bryan Schnettler scored 19 of his game-high 24 points in the first half and No. 7-ranked St. Thomas shot 60% from the field in Monday night's 81-66 win over host Hamline in MIAC men's basketball play on the Pipers' floor.
Senior forward Mike Keating chipped in 20 points and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double for UST (5-0 overall, 3-0 MIAC).
Senior center Isaac Rosefelt had eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots and moved past 1,000 career points. Rosefelt now has 1,007 points and 657 rebounds in 59 games on his three-year Tommie career.
The Toms sank 10-of-16 from 3-point range and shot 60% overall from the field (28-of-47). UST outrebounded Hamline 31-25 and overcame 18 turnovers.
St. Thomas remained in a tie for the MIAC lead with Gustavus and St. John's at 3-0.
Soph point guard Brett Tuma made 4-of-4 3-pointers off the bench and scored 11 of his career-high 14 points in the second half. Tuma played extensively after an injury sidelined starting point guard Andrew Dwyer.
Junior Lonnie Robinson added eight points and five assists.
UST trailed 27-24, but Schnettler had 10 points during a 16-1 run over the last 5:18 of the first half that built a 40-28 halftime lead. The Pipers never were closer than six points in the second half.
Sam Wiener scored 15 points and Kyle Foster added 14 for Hamline (1-4, 0-2).
The Tommies host Macalester Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at Schoenecker Arena.
