Jay Hatleli is enters his 12th season in 2021-22 with the St. Thomas track program as an assistant coach. He coaches the men’s and women’s long and triple jumpers. He tutored Eyo Ekpo to All-America honors and coached a long list of MIAC champions in our Division III era. Hatleli grew up in Lanesboro, Minn., where he was an all-state football player and state champion (1996) in the pole vault. He then attended North Dakota State University, competing in the multi-events, while specializing in the jumping events. He was a nine-time all-conference performer on the track. Additionally, Hatleli played football for the Bison, where he was a two-year starter at cornerback. While at NDSU, he earned degrees in psychology and social studies education.

Currently, Hatleli teaches psychology classes at Rosemount High School just south of St. Paul, where he is also the boys head track coach and his wife Sara is the girls' head coach. The pair led the Irish to multiple state team championships in both genders in track and field with nearly 100 all-state honors alone on the boys' side.
