Brian Matthews joined the Saint Thomas Academic Support Services for Athletics office as an Academic Counselor in July 2022.
Matthews has been at Saint Thomas for three years, working as an Academic Counselor in the Julie Sullivan Center for Student Achievement. In this role, Matthews supported students with registration advising, degree planning and academic coaching.
Matthews brings more than eight years of experience working in higher education, having worked in the registrar’s office at Macalester College and in a Student Support Services role at the Minneapolis campus of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
A native of South St. Paul, Matthews is a 2010 alumnus of Saint Thomas, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts with majors in Journalism and English with an Emphasis in Writing. He received his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
Matthews is a proud Tommie who has always supported Saint Thomas athletics. He is excited to work with student athletes in pursuit of their academic goals, supporting them through their time at Saint Thomas.
Matthews resides in St. Paul with his wife Mary and two kids: Ruth and Isaac. When he is not supporting Tommie athletics from his office or the stands, he enjoys spending time with his family and training for his next running race.
