Alyssa Reina is entering her second season as the volunteer assistant coach of the St. Thomas softball team in 2023-24.
Reina joins the St. Thomas staff after a five year career with the University of Minnesota softball program. As part of their coaching staff, Reina helped the Gophers win three Big 10 Championships, appear in five Regional tournaments, and record a first ever World Series appearance in 2019. "I couldn't be more thrilled for this opportunity. It is an exciting challenge as we grow to new heights with this team and school and I believe this place and people can do something extremely special" says Reina about joining the St. Thomas family.
Reina joined the Maroon and Gold following a decorated career at North Dakota State University as a catcher and utility player. During her years as a member of the Bison squad, she collected a career batting average of .314 and drove in 133 runs. Reina also ranks seventh all-time at NDSU in slugging percentage (.570), home runs (29) and putouts (1,069). Reina during her time as an undergrad received numerous accolades including a three-time Summit League All-Tournament Team honor, 2015 Summit League Second Team, two-time NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete, 2015 NFCA all-Midwest Region Third Team, 2016 Summit League First Team and 2016 NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team.
Reina earned her Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Public Relations at North Dakota State University while also excelling on the field. She went back to the classroom after two years off to earn her Master's Degree in Sport Management and Leadership at the University of Minnesota while serving on the coaching staff.
