Sean Barrett
Sean Barrett
Sean Barrett is serving as interim head coach for Tommie Men's Golf as it makes its transition into Division I. He replaced 10-year head coach Scott Poshek who retired last winter.

A 2010 St. Thomas graduate, Barrett served on Proshek's staff the previous six seasons. He was a standout player for St. Thomas himself, and is one of just five Tommie men's golfers to make All-MIAC three or more times.

Barrett has one of the more unique athletic resumes among St. Thomas coaches/student-athletes:
  • The son of a Tommie hockey player (Pat Barrett), Sean had success as a varsity football kicker and golfer.
  • At Mahtomedi High, he kicked the winning PAT in overtime in the Zephyrs' 27-26 victory over Holy Angels in the state championship game; made all-state and KARE-11 All-Metro as a senior in 2005 when he broke the state record with 12 made field goals.
  • He also was a 5X letter winner in golf at Mahtomedi High and was co-medalist at the Minnesota 2A state tournament.
  • He attended Iowa State University as a college freshman and didn't play sports. He transferred to St. Thomas in fall 2007, where as starting placekicker he made three field goals and 25 PATs for the Toms.
  • After a coaching change, he switched to golf for his last three seasons and placed 10th, second and eighth in three MIAC Championship meets. His 2009 Tommie team tied for second in the conference after he shot 73-73-73/219.
  • He was a Cleveland Scholar Athlete recipient as a senior.
  • As a St. Thomas assistant coach in recent seasons, he's been part of a staff that contributed to the Purple winning three consecutive league crowns and becoming a perennial top-25 team nationally.
  • When he's not assisting the St. Thomas golf team or spending time with his wife, Sean works in downtown Minneapolis in his role in the financial services field.
