Tommies fall in 2-1 battle with Butler

McEwan scores in third straight game
ST. PAUL, Minn. — The University of St. Thomas lost to Butler 2-1 on Saturday at South Field. St. Thomas outshot Butler 14-9 and put a season-high nine shots on goal in the loss.
First Half
- St. Thomas generated three early shots, including saves on attempts by Alexis Larson and Izzy McEwan, before McEwan scored at 9:33 for a 1-0 lead. McEwan has scored at least one goal in three consecutive games.
- Butler tied it 1-1 at 10:32 when Lola Pepper scored off an assist from Chloe Brecht.
- Ayden Gagner made saves on shots by Riley Gumm and Brecht during a Butler stretch that also included a corner kick, and St. Thomas added late shots from Ella OKeefe and Karlie Greenthal before the half ended tied 1-1.
Second Half
- With the match tied 1-1, St. Thomas generated a corner kick at 51:43 and four shots from 57:00 to 62:44, including saved attempts by McEwan and Norah Benson.
- Emily McCarthy put another shot on frame at 77:11 before Butler answered with pressure from 78:52 to 83:58, including saves by Gagner on Lily Kiliski and Lola Pepper.
- Molly Armstrong had a shot saved at 84:42, but Butler moved ahead 2-1 on a Riley Gumm goal at 85:33 and finished with a 2-1 win.
McEwan scored an unassisted goal and led St. Thomas with three shots, all on goal. Gagner played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves, with two in each half.
St. Thomas is 0-4-1 overall. Butler is 2-2-1 overall.
