ST. PAUL, Minn. — The University of St. Thomas defeated New Hampshire 3-1 Saturday at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. The Tommies outshot the Wildcats 30-19 and scored twice in the third period.
Dani Strom handled the Wildcats' early push in the first period, making a series of saves while the Tommies also blocked several attempts in front of her. The Tommies broke through at 12:37 when Chloe Boreen scored at even strength off an assist from Kenleigh Fischer, giving the Tommies a 1-0 lead. Boreen has scored at least one goal in two consecutive games. Fischer has recorded at least one assist in two consecutive games. The Tommies generated the late pressure, with Teagan Kulenkamp, Fischer, Whitney Horton and Josie Skoogman putting shots on goal before the period ended with the Tommies ahead 1-0.
The Wildcats created the first major chance of the second period when Addison Spitz hit the pipe at 18:32, while the Tommies answered with attempts from Cara Sajevic, Ella Boerger and Ellie Stewart that Noemi Martinez saved. The Wildcats tied the game at 1-1 at 13:12 on Danika Botterill's even-strength goal, assisted by Aurora Kahlert and Nina Rossi. The Tommies continued to generate looks through the middle and late stages of the period, including a power play that began at 4:40, but Martinez handled the shots that reached her. Strom made late saves for the Tommies, including one on Addison Finn at :17, and the period ended with the game still tied 1-1.
The Tommies generated several looks early in the third period, including saved shots from Sajevic, Horton, Kulenkamp and Fischer before Sajevic scored at 11:29 off a Sydney Bryant assist to make it 2-1.
