Men’s Soccer drops tight battle with Xavier

Moritz Krenc made a season-high six saves
ST. PAUL, Minn. — The University of St. Thomas men's soccer team (3-3-2) lost to Xavier (4-0-1) 1-0 in a tightly-matched contest at South Field on Sunday. The Tommies were limited to two shots with none on goal, while their goalkeeper, Moritz Krenc, recorded six saves against 16 Musketeer shots.
St. Thomas got through Xavier's late pressure without conceding, with Moritz Krenc stopping a shot at 37:21 amid three Xavier shots and two corner kicks from 33:35 to 42:23. Earlier, Cian Williams had St. Thomas' shot in the 17th minute, and the Tommies added a corner kick at 28:07 before the first half ended scoreless.
St. Thomas held Xavier off the board through repeated pressure early in the second half, with Krenc making four saves by the 66:09 mark. Xavier broke through at 67:36, when Osi Onwudiwe scored off Gerard Lorente's assist for a 1-0 lead. The Tommies pushed late with Merrick Schaefer's shot at 77:35 and corner kicks at 88:17 and 89:20, but the match finished 1-0.
Krenc recorded six saves in 90 minutes, including five in the second half, and allowed one goal.
