The Tommies climb to 18-6 with a +100 run differential

BOISE, IdahoAvery Wukawitz powered the St. Thomas softball team (18-6) offensively while Mya Tautges and Ella Cook kept their opposition in check in route to two wins on Saturday at the Blue Collar Classic. The Toms defeated Portland State (8-12), 10-3, and Boise State (11-15), 4-1.

Game One
St. Thomas opened the day with a dominant performance against Portland State, scoring in four different innings on the way to a 10-3 victory.

After a quiet first inning, the Tommies broke through in the second before erupting late to put the game away. St. Thomas scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and four more in the seventh.

Avery Wukawitz led the offensive charge from the leadoff spot. She finished 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and two home runs to pace the Tommie offense. Morgan Klein also delivered a huge performance at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBI, and two long balls.

Zoe Trotter added an RBI and was part of an 11-hit onslaught from the Purple.

Mya Tautges limited the Vikings to a three-run third inning on a trio of unearned runs. She earned her fourth win with a complete game effort, two hits allowed, one walk, and six strikeouts. She lowered her season ERA to 1.65, second in the Summit League.

Game Two
The Tommies carried the momentum into the nightcap against host Boise State, using timely hitting and a strong performance in the circle from Ella Cook to claim the 4-1 win.

They struck first in the third inning with a two-run frame and added insurance runs in the seventh. Wukawitz sparked the offense once again with two hits and her Summit League leading ninth home run of the season. She has already tied her single-season DI program record.

Laken Lienhard also delivered a strong performance at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and a home run.

Boise State got one run off Ella Cook in the second inning but was unable to generate more with just four hits in the game. Cook struck out seven with one earned run and one walk to bring her season ERA to a conference leading 1.42. Her 1.012 OPS is also 20th in the Summit, for those keeping score.

St. Thomas finished with seven hits and played a clean defensive game with no errors in its fourth win in a row.
