Tommies climb two spots to finish 12th overall

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – St. Thomas women's golf closed out the Coach Mo Classic with another strong final round, marking its third consecutive tournament with a standout finish on the final day. The Tommies improved by nine strokes as a team and climbed two spots on the leaderboard to place 12th in the 16-team field at St. John's Golf and Country Club.
 
Kathryn VanArragon and Genevieve Birkeland each carded under-par rounds in the final 18 holes to lead the Purple.
 
VanArragon paced St. Thomas in two of the three rounds, including a final-round 69 (-3), one of the top scores of the tournament. She finished tied for 17th at four-over-par (220), just four strokes shy of the top 10. The junior excelled on par-four holes, finishing with an even scoring average, good for sixth-best among the 91-player field.
 
Purdue claimed the team title with an even-par performance across 54 holes. St. Thomas, the lone Summit League representative in the field, finished nine strokes behind Michigan, which placed 10th.
 
Round One
The opening round proved to be the most challenging for the Tommies, who posted a team score of 26-over par. Emma Davies led the way with a 75 (+3), highlighted by two early birdies and a stretch of eight consecutive pars to close her round. VanArragon followed closely with a 76, opening her day with nine straight pars. Amelia Morton shot 80 (+8), while Birkeland and Karen Lind Stefansdottir each recorded rounds of 83.
 
Round Two
Stefansdottir bounced back in round two, tying VanArragon for the team lead with a pair of 75s (+3). She recorded a birded on her opening hole and added an eagle later in the round. Davies continued her steady play with a 76, while Birkeland and Morton each carded 79s.
 
Round Three
The Tommies shined in the final round, posting a team score of 296 (+8), a nine-stroke improvement from round two. VanArragon deliver a 69 (-3), carding four birdies against just one bogey. Birkeland followed with a 71 (-1), while Morton added a 77 (+5). Davies rounded out the scoring with a 79 (+7), and Stefansdottir posted an 83.
