Strong final round propels Women’s Golf to top four finish

Freshman, Karen Lind Stefansdottir fires personal best 67 (-5) in final round

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – St. Thomas women's golf surged two spots in the final round to secure a fourth-place finish at the Jackrabbit Invitational, held at Boulder Creek Golf Course,  
 
Senior Emma Davies paced the Tommies with an eighth-place finish, while freshman Karen Lind Stefansdottir delivered the highlight of the tournament with a bogey-free, five-under-par 67 in Tuesday's final round, the lowest round of the event and one of the best in program history.
 
UNLV claimed the team title, finishing 13 strokes ahead of the field. St. Thomas carded rounds of 295-298-284—877 (+13), matching the Rebels' final-round score at four-under par. The Tommies finished 12 strokes behind South Dakota State and ahead of Oral Roberts and Omaha.
 
Round One
Davies and Kathryn VanArragon led the way in the opening round, each carding even par 72s. Davies highlighted her round with four birdies on the back nine, while VanArragon added three birdies to her steady performance. Amelia Morton shot 74 (+2), Genevieve Birkeland posted a 77 (+5), Karen Lind Stefansdottir shot 82 (+10), and Claire Schweim added a 76 (+4).
 
Round Two
Stefansdottir rebounded in round two to lead St. Thomas with a 73 (+1), recording eight pars and a birdie on her front nine. Morton added a 74 (+2) with three birdies, while Birkeland highlighted her round with an eagle en route to a 75 (+3). Davies rounded out the scoring with a 76 (+4). VanArragon shot 79 (+7), and Schweim posted an 81 (+9).
 
Round Three
The freshman capped the tournament with a historic performance, firing a bogey-free 67 (-5) with five birdies to jump 21 shots into a tie for 20th, her best collegiate finish.
 
Davies also finished strong with a 70 (-2), highlighted by four consecutive birdies on holes 13-16 to secure a top 10 finish. VanArragon added a 73 (+1), Birkeland posted a 74 (+2), and Morton finished with a 77 (+5).
