Women’s Golf finishes strong at Pay It Forward Collegiate

The Tommies shot five over par as a team during the final round
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – St. Thomas women's golf jumped up one place on the final day of the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate at The Wigwam on Tuesday afternoon. Emma Davies led the way with a team-best 71 (E) on the final 18. Her 27th place finish paced the Purple.
USF earned the tournament win, finished 10 strokes ahead of the field. St. Thomas carded rounds of 303-302-288—893 (+41) and finished 12th out of the 14-team field. The scored better than North Dakota but placed behind Omaha, and North Dakota State.
Round One
Davies got the tournament start strong with a 72 (+1) on the first 18. She earned a birdie and a bogey on the front and finished the day with a birdie on 18 after back-to-back bogeys. Amelia Morton came in second for the Toms with a 76 (+5) while Genevieve Birkeland went +6 and Karen Lind Stefansdottir went +7. Claire Schweim shot a 75 (+4) while competing as an independent.
Round Two
Emma Davies again led the charge on the second 18 of day one with a 73 (+2) but this time she was matched by Birkeland. Davies did so with a pair of bogeys and 16 pars while Birkeland carded a more mercurial round with three birdies and five bogeys. Morton matched her first-round score and Stefansdottir shot nine strokes over par. Schweim carded an even 71 with two birdies and two bogeys.
Round Three
The senior, Davies capped off her tournament with an E on the final day. Her teammates, Birkeland and VanArragon were right behind with 72's (+1) and Morton carded her best round of the event, 73 (+2). Both Birkeland and VanArragon eagled a hole, the freshman on hole three (Par 5), and the junior on hole 14 (Par 4). Stefansdottir and Schweim both completed the day with 77's (+6).
