Tommies split doubleheader with Bears

Tommies win game one, fall in game two
GREELEY, COLO.- St. Thomas baseball splits the first series of Summit League play against the Northern Colorado Bears. The Tommies took game one 8-5 before falling
Game One:
The Tommies struck first in the top half of the first inning when Lucas McNellis punched it through the right-side scoring Recchio from third.
Northern Colorado then hit back-to-back solo homeruns in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead.
Owen Bond then knotted the game at two when he brought in Zan Von Schlegell in the top of the third.
The Bears then plated two in the bottom of the second, taking a 4-2 lead.
St. Thomas responded quickly in the top of the seventh when Owen Bond tripled to start the inning and was brought in off an RBI from Joe Roder.
Roder came up big in the top of the eighth when his RBI double drove in two Tommies and gave the Purple a 5-4 lead.
The Tommies added three in the ninth off an error by Northern Colorado and a Sean Marlow RBI single.
Northern Colorado plated one in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 8-5.
Game Two:
St. Thomas struck first once again, this time plating two in the top of the first. McNellis and Max Berrisford picked up RBIs. Recchio and Puder crossed the plate for the Purple.
Northern Colorado then scored in the bottom half to cut the deficit to one. The Bears then knotted the game at two in the second of a solo home run.
Easton Fritcher made the score 4-2 with a two out RBI double in the third.
The Bears quickly responded, scoring two of their own in the bottom half of the third, knotting the game at four.
Northern Colorado broke the tie in the seventh when they scored two. The Bears scored three more in the bottom of the eighth, taking 9-4 lead.
Up Next:
The Tommies will remain in Colorado to take on Air Force, Monday, March 16th. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT.
