The Toms fell to undefeated Alabama on Sunday afternoon
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Tommie softball team (14-6) wrapped up its fourth straight winning weekend with a 7-0 loss to undefeated and 7th ranked Alabama at the Crimson Classic on Sunday afternoon.
After holding one of the best offenses in the country to just two runs on Friday, Ella Cook gave the Tommies a chance through her four innings of work. She allowed three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Ava Kleinfeldt and Mya Tautges came in for one inning of relief a piece, Kleinfeldt allowed four runs on four hits while Tautges gave up a lone single.
The Purple's offense struggled against the Crimson Tide mounting only a pair of singles (Abbi Stierlen & Avery Wukawitz) and four walks (Stierlen, Ella Cook, Cassidy Carby, Zoe Trotter). Their best scoring chance came in the top of the fourth when they had Miley Wichman on third with one out but did not push her across home plate.
St. Thomas' 14-6 start through the first four weeks of the season is the best in program history. The Tommies have seven run-rule wins and have outscored their opponents 132-52 in 20 games.
