Tommies fall 4-1 to Gophers

Sajevic tallies lone Tommie goal
ST. PAUL, MIINN. - St. Thomas Women's Hockey (12-17-0, 7-16-0) fall 4-1 to the Minnesota Golden Gophers (24-5-0, 18-5-0) on Field Trip Friday. Cara Sajevic scored the Tommie goal in the second period. The Tommies outshot the Gophers 31-29.
Scoring Summary:
First Period: Although the Gophers scored the lone goal of the period, the Tommies brought the offensive pressure as they outshot Minnesota 12-6 in the first 20 minutes of play. The Gopher goal came on a breakaway out the penalty box, and they held the 1-0 lead into the break.
Second Period: The Gophers but two goals on the board in the second to go up 3-0. The Purple was then able to score their first of the game and cut the deficit to two when junior Cara Sajevic scored her fourth goal of the season. Whitney Horton and Chloe Boreen tallied the assists. Minnesota took the 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
Third Period: Similar to the first, Minnesota scored the lone goal of the period to defeat the Tommies 4-1.
Up Next
The Tommies will head across the river for the series finale against the Gophers at Ridder Arena. Puck drop is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7.
