Tommies falter in season finale at ORU

TULSA, OKLA.  – It is officially Summit League Tournament time for the University of St. Thomas women's basketball team. The Tommies closed the regular season in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, falling to the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles 67-52. With the loss, St. Thomas ends the regular season with an overall record of 15-15 and an 8-8 mark in Summit League play.  

The Tommies will play the same Oral Roberts team in the 4v5 quarterfinal of the Summit League Tournament on Friday, March 6, 2026.

QUICK HITS:
  • Alyssa Sand (Albany, Minn. / Albany) led the team with 19 points on 7-13 shooting with four rebounds, one assist, one steal and three blocks. The sophomore ends the regular season as the DI era record holder in both single-season steals and blocks, closing with 70 steals and 43 blocks.
  • St. Thomas earned a top-5 seed in the Summit League Tournament for the third straight season and will play in the 4v5 quarterfinal for the third consecutive season. In those previous two games, the Tommies are 0-2 with losses to South Dakota and North Dakota.
 
SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: Both St. Thomas and Oral Roberts struggled to get anything going offensively in the first quarter. The two teams scored a combined 19 points in the opening 10 minutes of play, with the Golden Eagles outscoring the Tommies 12-7. In fact, the two teams shot a combined 8-31 from the floor.  
 
Second Quarter: Baskets were much more plentiful for both St. Thomas and Oral Roberts, as the Tommies shooting vastly improved from the first to the second quarter. While St. Thomas made zero threes, the team did shoot .571 from the floor in the second quarter, allowing the Tommies to tie things up 27-27 by halftime. Sand led the team with nine points in the first half of the game, while key baskets from Savannah McGowan (Plymouth, Minn. / Robbinsdale) helped St. Thomas keep things close in the second.  
 
Third Quarter: The Tommies were blistering to open the third quarter. Fueled by baskets from Sand and McGowan, St. Thomas went on a 7-0 run and took a 34-27 lead over its hosts. In fact, the Tommies outscored the Golden Eagles 13-2 over a seven minute window from the second quarter to the third, one of their best scoring runs of the season. However, Oral Roberts responded with a 7-0 run of its own, tying the game at 34-34 with five minutes remaining in the quarter. Turnovers cost St. Thomas late, allowing the Golden Eagles to take a 44-39 lead into the fourth quarter.  
 
Fourth Quarter: The fourth quarter did not go well for the Tommies, as turnovers and shooting struggles resulting in a 67-52 victory for Oral Roberts. Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore) did make a three late in the game, the team's one and only three made.
 
UP NEXT:
St. Thomas heads to Sioux Falls for the Summit League Tournament, earning a top-5 seed for the third consecutive season. The Tommies will take on Oral Roberts in the quarterfinal at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6.
