St. Thomas sweeps St. Cloud State in WCHA battle

Tommies sweep Huskies for first time ever
ST. PAUL, MIINN. - St. Thomas Women's Hockey (12-16-0, 7-15-0) completes the sweep as they defeat the St. Cloud State Huskies (8-18-2, 4-16-2) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. This is the first time ever that the Tommies have swept the Huskies. Three different Tommies chipped in goals in the victory.
It was three mighty B's scoring for the Purple, Rylee Bartz, Madison Brown and Chloe Boreen were the Tommie goal scorers.
Maya Engler also tallied her first career point, as she assisted Boreen's goal. In net, Julia Minotti recorded 17 saves.
Scoring Summary:
First Period: Unlike the defensive back and forth battle yesterday, the Tommies controlled both procession and pace of the first period. The Purple was able to take a 1-0 into the first intermission as Madison Brown netted the first goal of the day during a Tommie power play. Chloe Boreen and Whitney Horton picked up the assists.
Second Period: The Purple extended their lead in the second by netting two Tommie goals. Rylee Bartz scored her 15th of the season at the 5:40 mark off a pass from Jenessa Gazdik. Chloe Boreen was then able to give St. Thomas the 3-0 lead as she netted a diving goal of passed from two freshman, Whitney Horton and Maya Engler. Horton tallied her second point of the day and Engler her first career point.
Third Period: The Huskies tallied two in the third, but the Tommies held on the take the 3-2 victory.
Up Next
The Tommies will be back at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena Friday, February 6th for the home portion of their home and home series with the No. 3 Minnesota Golden Gophers. Puck drop is slated for 12 p.m. for Field Trip Friday.
