ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team played one of its best games of 2025-26. The Tommies took North Dakota State University to the wire, nearly upending the Bison in Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. Unfortunately, St. Thomas was unable to make up a first quarter deficit, falling to (RV) NDSU 75-66. With the loss, the Tommies are now 9-11 overall and 2-4 in Summit League play.
QUICK HITS:
SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: The first quarter belonged to North Dakota State, as the Bizon opened the game on a 9-0 run. St. Thomas, though, was able to whittle away at the deficit, as baskets from Sand and Autumn McCall (Blaine, Minn. / Centennial) pulled the Tommies within two possessions of NDSU. A late layup from Jada Hood (St. Paul, Minn. / Roseville Area) helped St. Thomas pull within striking distance, as the Bison ended the first with a 26-15 advantage.
Second Quarter: Defense was the story of the second quarter, especially for St. Thomas. Sand continued to dominate on both sides of the ball, leading the way with four defensive rebounds and six points. Still, NDSU controlled most the play, allowing the Bison to take a 39-26 lead into the locker room at half.
Third Quarter: The Tommies came to life in the third, outscoring NDSU 17-11 to cut the lead to 50-43 by the end of the quarter. On offense, Werner went 4-4 from the floor, pacing St. Thomas and closing with eight points. Defensively, the Tommies were led by McCall and Sand, as St. Thomas pulled within seven entering the final 10 minutes of play.
Fourth Quarter: Hood opened the final with a three, setting the tone for the quarter. The Tommies managed to keep within striking distance, but NDSU proved to be too much in the closing minutes of regulation. Fueled by free throws, the Bison cemented their victory at the charity stripe, defeating St. Thomas by a final score 75-66.
