Women’s Golf opens fall season with Badger Invitational

The Tommies climbed to 11th after a strong final round
MADISON, Wisc. – Tommie Women's Golf, led by junior Kathryn VanArragon, placed 11th out of a strong 14 team field at the Badger Invitational at the University of Wisconsin Golf Course across three days to begin the Fall 2025 season. Illinois ran away from the field to clinch the victory; 16 strokes clear of the second place Delaware Blue Hens. The Toms took second of three Summit League programs, 14 strokes behind Denver and five ahead of South Dakota State.
VanArragon finished the competition in 28th place after a strong 73 (+1) during the final round of play today.
Scoring Summary
First Round
-The Blaine native, VanArragon, shot the lowest score for the Tommies with a 75 (+3), she birdied two of her final four holes to begin the tournament.
-Claire Schweim went second lowest while competing as an individual with a 76 (+4), followed by Emma Davies with a 77 (+5).
-Both freshmen, Genevieve Birkeland and Karen Lind Stefansdottir, shot identical 80's (+8) to kick off their collegiate careers and Amelia Morton went 12 strokes over par to round out the Tommies' order on day one.
Second Round
-Birkeland led the way on day two with an even par second round. After two bogeys and a double on the front nine, the freshman bounced back with four birdies on the back.
-VanArragon matched her first round with a 75 (+3) and Morton bounced back to equal her junior teammate after a birdie on her 18th hole.
-Stefansdottir was the final scoring golfer on day two with a 78 (+6), a two-stroke improvement over day one.
-Schweim went eight strokes over and Davies carded an 83 (+11).
Third Round
-Amelia Morton crushed it on day three with a 71 (-1) to climb 15 spots on the leaderboard behind the Tommies' only round below par of the competition.
-VanArragon improved on her first two rounds with a 73 (+1) for a six-spot rise on the leaderboard. Davies matched Kathryn with her best round of the tournament at 73 (+1).
-Birkeland carded a 76 (+4), Stefansdottir a 77 (+5), and Schweim a 82 (+10).

-Birkeland's second round 72 (E) is reminiscent of Amelia Morton's 72 at the Badger Invitational last season, both came in their first collegiate competition. Morton went three strokes lower overall. Both finished as the second-best golfer among their teammates at the event.
-The Tommies averaged the third-best scores on Par 3s (3.05) behind only the champion Illini and Bradley.
-Birkeland finished third among all competitors on those Par 3s with an average score of 2.8.

The Purple finished in ninth place at the event last season. Kathryn VanArragon matched her career-low single round score (68) and tournament score (213) for a seventh place finish last season.
