Men’s trio named Summit Outdoor Track & Field Academic All-League

Bezdicek, Piehl and Rosner three of 18 men named to academic team

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The St. Thomas men's track & field program continues to excel in the classroom as three members of the 2024-25 outdoor team were named to the Summit Outdoor Academic All-League Team.
 
Johnny Bezdicek, Jack Rosner and Mitchell Piehl were voted to the academic team, Piehl and Rosner for the second time in their careers, both last season. The selections mark the third, fourth and fifth all-time for the outdoor program since joining in 2021-22.
 
Bezdicek, a native of Hastings, Minn., was named to the team with a 3.95 GPA in finance. He was named 2025 Summit Outdoor All-League Team as member of third-place 4x100m relay, helping set the St. Thomas program record. Bezdicek was also part of the fourth-place 4x400m relay at the league championships and ranked 10th in the Summit League this season in the 400m dash. He totaled two event wins in the 400m dash and four top-10 finishes in non-relay events.
 
Bezdicek is a 2023-24 selection to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll.
 
Piehl, from Hutchinson, Minn., earned a spot with a 3.98 GPA majoring in computer science. He was a member of the 2025 Summit Outdoor All-League Team in 200m dash, finishing third, and 4x100m relay with Bezdicek, also taking third. Piehl set the St. Thomas 200m dash record of 21.10 that ranks fifth in Summit League and 17th in the Midwest this season. He also joined Bezdicek on the 4x400m relay that finished fourth at the league championships and ranked ninth in the Summit League in the 400m dash this season.
 
Piehl was named to the 2024-25 Summit League Indoor Academic Team earlier this year and the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and is a two-time Summit League Academic Honor Roll selection.
 
Rosner, a native of De Pere, Wis., holds a 3.91 GPA majoring in electrical engineering. He earned his first league title as the 2025 Summit League Decathlon Champion and also earned a spot on the 2025 Summit Outdoor All-League Team in 400m hurdles, taking second behind the program's second-fastest time ever of 52.00. Rosner set the St. Thomas program record of 7661 in decathlon at Drake Relays, ranking second in the Summit League, sixth in the Midwest Region and 20th in the nation this season. He also set the program record of 14.01 in 110m hurdles, ranked seventh in the league this season. Rosner marked the program's fourth-best pole vault ever, which stands ninth in the Summit League this season, and threw the program's eighth-best javelin at the Drake Relays, the league's fifth-best mark of the season.
 
Rosner Is a three-time Summit League Academic Honor Roll member and two-time Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence selection. He was named to the 2024-25 Summit League Indoor Academic Team earlier this year and twice to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
 
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), competed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
 
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's eight institutions that carry track & field, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and faculty athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the 15 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
