The Tommies fell to the UCF Knights at the Okana Invitational
NORMAN, Okla. – Laken Lienhard got Tommie Softball's (19-13 overall, 4-2 Summit League) Friday afternoon game with the University of Central Florida Knights (23-16-1, 4-8 Big 12) started with a bang when she ripped her fourth home run of the last week over the left field fence. Unfortunately, the Toms could not contain the Knights and ultimately fell, 8-4.
Recap
Lienhard did not hit a single home run during her first season with the Tommies, after a recent power surge, the senior shortstop is tied for the team lead with six long balls this season. Her solo home run in the top of the first was the lone tally for the Tommies.
Ava Kleinfeldt got the call to start the game in the circle but ran into early trouble with a three run first. The Knights hit a two-run home run to take the lead their first of two round trippers in the game. They rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the second. Ella Cook relieved Kleinfeldt after the freshman gave up a lead off double and RBI single. Cook allowed the inherited runner to score but stopped the Knights at five total runs.
The Tommies were the next to strike in the top of the fourth on an Adrianna Young RBI double to score Anna Caruso but the same Knight who homered in the first, Beth Damon, struck for another two-run homer in the bottom half of the frame.
Ella Cook scored two runs on a fielder's choice and a Central Florida error in the top of the fifth. UCF scored their final run of the contest in the bottom half to pull out in front, 8-4.
Cook was the only Tommie with two hits, Adrianna Young's double and Lienhard's home run were the only extra-base hits for the Purple.
