Baseball splits Friday doubleheader at Oral Roberts

Kruzan records complete game in 11-1 win over Golden Eagles

TULSA, Okla. --  St. Thomas baseball traveled to Oklahoma for a Summit League series between the top two teams in the conference standings. After an 11-1 victory in game one, St. Thomas (20-16 overall, 14-5 Summit) split Friday's doubleheader against Oral Roberts (24-16 overall, 11-7 Summit) at Chapman Park.
 
GAME ONE - W, 11-1
St. Thomas was the first on the board in game one, scoring five runs across the opening three innings on Friday.
 
Oral Roberts scored its first and only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
 
Joe Roder tallied an RBI in the first inning, followed by a three-run home run in the third to help the Tommies to an early 5-1 advantage.
 
After two scoreless innings, the Purple added two runs in the sixth and tallied one in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-1.
 
Scoring three runs across the final two frames, St. Thomas earned a series-opening, 11-1 victory.
 
Six Tommies recorded multi-hit games in the series opener, led by Tanner Recchio who posted three hits against the Golden Eagles.
 
Zan Von Schlegell recorded two doubles in two at bats in game one.
 
Marcus Kruzan pitched his first career complete game, totaling three strikeouts and allowing just one run.
 
GAME TWO – L, 13-2
Oral Roberts opened scoring in game two of Friday's doubleheader. The Golden Eagles gained a four-run advantage before Max Moris recorded a solo home run in the fourth frame for St. Thomas.
 
Oral Roberts then extended its lead to 8-1 with a four-run fifth on its home field.
 
After Moris drove in his second run of the contest, the Golden Eagles posted a five-run seventh inning, defeating St. Thomas 13-2.
