Baseball earns a pair of wins against Oral Roberts

Tommies sweep the Golden Eagles in Friday doubleheader

ST. PAUL, Minn. –   St. Thomas baseball welcomed Oral Roberts to Koch Diamond for the 2025 home opener. In the Summit League doubleheader, St. Thomas (13-10 overall, 7-1 Summit) secured the series victory over Oral Roberts (15-11 overall, 4-4 Summit) on Friday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE (W, 3-2)
It was a scoreless start to the series opener at Koch Diamond.
 
In the bottom of the third, Ben Vujovich recorded his first triple of the season. Scoring shortly thereafter, the Tommies were the first on the board in game one.
 
A two-run home run by Matthew Maulik in the fourth extended the Purple's lead to 3-0.
 
Oral Roberts added two runs across the sixth and seventh inning, but were unable to complete the comeback.
 
Over 6.0 innings, Marcus Kruzan (4-0) totaled seven strikeouts, allowing five hits and two runs. Zak Endres added two strikeouts, allowing one hit over 3.0 frames.
 
Joe Vos went 2-3, including a double against the Golden Eagles.
 
GAME TWO (W, 8-2)
Tanner Recchio opened game two with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Tommies totaled three runs in the first frame, followed by two runs in the second to take an early 5-0 lead.
 
Ben Vujovich tallied his third home run of the season, leading the Tommies to a two-run second inning.
 
Oral Roberts scored its first and only runs of the game in the top of the fourth, tallying two to make it a 5-2 contest.
 
After a scoreless fifth inning, St. Thomas posted a three-run sixth led by a Joe Vos two-run home run, extending the lead to 8-2.
 
Walker Retz (3-0) posted five scoreless frames and four strikeouts over 6.0 innings on Friday afternoon. Kody Dalen recorded three strikeouts over 3.0 scoreless frames.
