Baseball falls to Kansas in series finale

Roder posts three RBI in 16-5 defeat
LAWRENCE, Kan. – St. Thomas baseball traveled to Kansas for its first ever series against the Jayhawks. In the series finale, St. Thomas (11-10 overall, 5-1 Summit) fell to Kansas (20-6 overall, 3-3 Big 12) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jayhawks opened scoring in game two recording a pair of runs in the first inning. After a scoreless second, St. Thomas added three runs in the third to take its first lead of the game. Joe Roder recorded a 2-RBI single, followed by an RBI single from Matthew Maulik.
However, Kansas tied the game once again, evening the score at 3-3 through three.
The Jayhawks added six runs in the fourth inning, taking the 9-3 advantage. After St. Thomas tallied two in the fifth, Kansas posted seven runs across the final two frames to defeat the Tommies, 16-5.
Roder went 1-2, recording three RBI on Wednesday afternoon.
Making his first start, Chris Petersen tallied two strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
